STRESZCZENIE PROJEKTU

The object of this programme is to examine the European and Multicultural characteristics of teachers and their work in Greece, France, Iceland, Poland and the United Kingdom. In these countries we will

§ Analyse European/Multicultural aspects of teacher education;

§ Analyse teachers’ conceptions of their own and their pupils’ identities in the European/multiethnic context;

§ Identify how teachers are prepared to deal with issues of culture, identity, racism and xenophobia in their professional practice;

§ Identify innovatory practice, and

§ Make prospective recommendations.

Target groups include

§ those educating teachers (in the five countries involved, and more widely),

§ those responsible for teacher recruitment;

§ the teaching profession as a whole;

§ indirectly, pupils in their schools;

§ policy makers in the Commission and in national governments.

Our activities include

§ analysing existing data, identify gaps and attempt to fill these;

§ interviewing samples of teachers to ascertain and analyse their views of teachers’ roles

§ in identity formation (particular with reference to European identity) and

§ in fighting racism and xenophobia;

§ conducting comparative studies of innovation to

§ recruit teachers more widely,

§ train teachers in aspects of Europe and/or multicultural societies, and

§ train teachers to fight racism in schools.

Our outputs will include detailed country reports, analytic comparative reports and conference papers.

CiCe Children Identity and Citizenship in Europe

Międzynarodowy projekt badawczo-edukacyjny poświęcony problemowi obywatelstwa młodych ludzi. Projekt zrzesz ponad 400 członków ze 100 europejski uczelni wyższych 29 krajów europejskich. Projekt rozpoczął działalność w 1998 roku.

Członkostwo w projekcie od 1998 roku. W ramach projektu odbyło się 9 międzynarodowych corocznych konferencji naukowych, wydano kilkadziesiąt publikacji o charakterze naukowym i dydaktycznym oraz zainicjowano wiele międzynarodowych projektów badawczych.

Obecnie członek Komitetu Zarządzającego (Executive Committee) odpowiedzialny za wspieranie pracy krajowych koordynatorów.

CiCe is one of the European Commission's Socrates Thematic Networks - we are a network of about 100 higher education institutions, from 29 countries in Europe. We all share an interest in the way in which children and young people learn about citizenship in the European context, and how they construct their identities. The courses we teach in our colleges and universities, and the research we undertake, are about the way that individuals, from birth to late teens, understand and learn about social, political and economic affairs. Our network helps to create a European-wide approach to these matters, as part of the European Higher Education Area.
